UK-Brazil Nexus collaboration – proposals invited

Proposals are invited for collaborative projects between the UK and Brazil which contribute to the economic development and welfare of Brazil within either the area of the Social Science of the Food-Water-Energy Nexus and Healthy Urban Living. These calls form part of the Newton Fund commitment to develop bilateral research partnerships and enhance the global research community through developing knowledge.

Up to £1.25 million (100 percent fEC) is available from the ESRC to support UK researchers under the Food-Water-Energy Nexus call, with matched equivalent effort from the participating funding partners to support Brazilian researchers. The funders expect to make three to five awards under this call.

Proposals should clearly identify one or more of these themes as the focus of the research project and demonstrate how it will be applied to the development of the Social Science of the Food-Water-Energy Nexus:

  • Measuring, modelling and understanding the Nexus
  • Innovation for sustainable transformations
  • The political economy and governance of the Nexus
  • Human welfare, development and the Nexus

All proposals should aim to include effective interdisciplinary working to address these complex and connected issues.

Deadline

Full proposals should be submitted to ESRC and FAPESP/CNPq by 16.00BST/12.00 Midday Brasilia Time, 2 July 2015.
