Speakers announced for Sustainability in Turbulent Times event, Thursday 16 March 2017, London

Speakers from academia, the public and private sector will offer thought-provoking contributions at the Sustainability in Turbulent Times event, Thursday 16 March 2017, London, on topics ranging from the implications of recent swings towards populism and nationalism for the relationship between inequality, democracy and sustainability and the likely implications of Brexit for agriculture, fisheries, wildlife, water, energy, climate and nexus issues. Participants will consider where next for evidence and experts at the food-water-energy nexus?

The event, the Nexus Network annual conference is held in association with Centre for the Understanding of Sustainable Prosperity and the Centre for the Evaluation of Complexity Across the Nexus is being held on Thursday 16 March 2017 in London.

Speakers

Speakers in the morning sessions include Achim Steiner, Director, Oxford Martin School; Natalie Bennett, Green Party; Mike Hulme, Kings College London; Andrea Westall, FDSD and Craig Bennett, Friends of the Earth.

Afternoon session speakers include Mary Creagh MP, Chair of Environmental Audit Committee; Michael Jacobs, University College London; Andy Richardson, Head of Corporate Affairs, Volac International; Charlotte Burns, University of York; Jane Elliot, Chief Executive, Economic and Social Research Council; Dame Athene Donald, Master, Churchill College, Cambridge; Ian Boyd, Chief Scientific Adviser, Defra and Beck Smith from Save the Children.

After the tea break, the participants will chose one parallel session to explore issues in more depth.

Clare Matterson CBE, Wellcome Trust; Kathryn Oliver, University of Oxford; Andy Stirling, Nexus Network and Dipak Gyawali from the Nepal Water Conservation Foundation will lead the final panel session on ‘Where next for evidence and experts at the food-water-energy nexus?’.

The event will close with a drinks reception and further networking.
