Nexus postdoctoral researcher post – business and natural capital- CLOSED

The University of Cambridge are looking for a post doctoral researcher who will act as an intellectual bridge between the basic science of natural capital and ecosystem services and the dependencies on natural capital experienced by corporations in the agribusiness, apparel, retail and natural resource sectors.

Salary: £28,982 to £37,768
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: 12 months in first instance

The post would suit an early career post-doctoral researcher with an academic background in a natural or social science or environmental economic field related to natural capital and ecosystem services.

The postholder will engage with the business and academic communities around a set of 40 prioritised nexus based questions. The focus of this post is to develop the next steps in terms of operationalising a research programme that follows on the priority areas identified in this previous project.

Tasks/activities of the post holder may include:

  • Promote and stimulate dialogue between social and natural science academics in the University and industry as the end users of research, through relationship building.
  • Create synergies for new and existing research across disciplines, as applicable for business, with particular reference to the nexus and natural capital.
  • Work closely with University of Cambridge academics and others in the Cambridge network to develop and deliver user-focused research that is applicable to business.
  • Synthesise relevant science and research, and translate it for a business audience to enable knowledge exchange

 

Specific tasks related to the Nexus and Natural Capital may include:

  • Development of a research programme that addresses some of the Nexus2020 questions.
  • Discuss with businesses what their research needs are, especially in relation to metrics/indicators that can guide business response.
  • Assist in building a natural capital metric for business.

 

Through these activities and dialogue, the researcher will have the freedom to shape new ideas and drive innovative thinking that will meet the material requirements of business.
