Two Newton Fund opportunities may be of interest:
1. Sustaining Water Resources for Food, Energy & Ecosystem Services in India- Scoping workshop
Update: the deadline to apply to NERC was 12 January 2015.
NERC is inviting applications from UK scientists to attend a jointly organised workshop with the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), in India on 11-12 March 2015.
Over 2 days the aims of the workshop will be:
- To define the scope of a new UK/India interdisciplinary call, supported by the Newton-Bhabha Fund, with a focus on research contributing to an improved understanding of water resources and its role in food, energy and ecosystem services, and through this support the economic development and welfare of India as part of the NERC and MoES funded programme Sustaining Water Resources for Food, Energy & Ecosystem Services in India.
- To explore opportunities for potential future UK/India collaborations in the areas of water resources and food, energy and ecosystem services.
Applications from researchers working in the fields of water security, ecosystem services, hydrological processes, hydrogeology, freshwater ecology, water quality and related disciplines are welcome. It is expected that approximately 15 participants will be invited and NERC will try to ensure a balance of different disciplines/expertise and the number of attendees from the same institution.
For more information and to apply see the NERC website.
2. Social science research collaboration between UK and China

The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). Successful proposals will involve existing groups, possibly with some already established connections and joint collaboration, who wish to enhance their collaborative activities over the next three years by working closely with other leading or potentially leading players globally.
The closing date is 5 March 2015.
