Energy access: the role of bioenergy

On Wed 25 February Dr Julia Tomei, Research Associate at UCL-Energy, attended the Research Council UK Energy Programme meeting at the opulent St James Court hotel in central London.

Julia had been invited by the Nexus Network to present a poster on ‘Energy access: the role of bioenergy’ to the Scientific Advisory Committee, which advises the Energy Programme on current and future priorities for funding.

Julia says

Highlighting UK capability, impact and key research challenges, I focused on my research on energy poverty and the human dimensions of bioenergy in the global South. While fielding an hour’s worth of questions from the Scientific Advisory Committee was quite a challenge, it provided an occasion to discuss my research in the context of the resource nexus. The meeting also gave me the opportunity to find out more about the work of other consortia in the topical, dynamic and complex area of energy research. Hopefully, we will see more research funding directed towards nexus thinking in the near future!
